To this trailer, let me say, ahh or oy, as a black and white Jew, I suppose this goes under the ‘Well, tov m’od, it’s a schmaltzy shallow reality tv show showing just 1 story, so hey, it works.’ They seem happy, but ugh, I bet it’ll make me recoil in wishing it to be something else. On an intelligent level, I do think it’s worth noting though that ‘Jewish’ is a religion first and foremost, and while the husband in the tv series chose to convert, it should be for the religion, not just to be married. So perfect, if it works for them, and he loves it, then good. I’m glad they emphasize how happy and in love they are in the trailer, it’s not a backstory. I hope they do mention though why he chose to convert instead of just staying non-Jewish while tolerant and accepting. My father, for instance, followed this path, happily. I will say I’m pleased from this trailer that at least, he’s complementing both the black sub-urban-SC culture and the Ashkenazi-WA Jewish culture, and that the show does address where Christianity and black culture often mix.
