Off-Center, UMD School of Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies

What a production, to say the least

Working as a freshman at the University of Maryland Department of Theatre (now School of Theatre, Dance and Performance Studies), I was insistent and determined to promote the student-led theatre production series in the Lab theatre called "Off-Center" at the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center. Starting with "The Lab" and ending with "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" followed by "Lebenstraum" (for which I did not create the flier), I worked as publicist with each of these shows, and in addition, later on in my student career, worked publicity for the unrelated Shakespeare Players' production of "Julius Caesar" in the same venue.

Hamsa Jewish LGBT Student Organization

A Logo to be 'Proud' Of

As one of the founding members of the University of Maryland's Jewish LGBT Student Organization (GSA), I designed a logo that was used on fliers, pamphlets, and t-shirts. I also designed fliers during my time with the student organization. I'm happy to say that thanks to then-President, Aaron Shapiro, the t-shirts read "Shomer Negiya Friendly. Little to no mixed dancing."

Zosu Company

Beware of zombies!

Created by my close friends, Sara Mossman and Bryan Peterson, Zosu Company is an innovative film and digital media firm now based out of California. In addition to film, they also work in clothing and publishing from time-to-time. They sought a logo design that expressed a funky, youthful, street aesthetic; one that hinted at their "zombie surfboard" moniker while allowing for growth over the years.

Figure Eight Strategies

A swing of the hip

Figure Eight Strategies, is the versatile umbrella through which Ms. Ellarose Preston provides 1-on-1 consultations with health-conscious, women-led small businesses. In addition, Ellarose leads dance instruction and cultural engagement at performance arts centers like Joe's Movement Emporium in Mount Rainier, MD (and performs her own work in Middle Eastern and North African Dance) as Nyla Elise. As such, Ellarose sought a logo design to visually connect her commitment to nutrition, wellness, and belly dance.

Bee Hope Cosmetics

A Touch of Sweetness

When Rene asked me to develop a logo for her new venture, Bee Hope Cosmetics, I was elevated. Her budding cosmetic line honors her father's trade name, "Be Hope Arts", and as such, the wordmark and logo design note a variation in a playful way, changing the color of the second "E" in "bee." With a hand-drawn representation of a western honey bee about to pollinate a flower, the logo reflects a feminine levity and a playful, optimistic spirit.

S. Rene Hoffler Real Estate

Take the Leap, Discover Your New Home

S. Rene Hoffler was 'straight to the pointe' when she shared her latest realty plans with me, after I took a class at her dance studio, Ballet Tap and All That Jazz, in downtown Hyattsville. As a realtor with Long & Foster, Rene wanted to rebrand her practice to better describe her love of dance with 'making houses move.'

She sought a branding package inclusive of messaging (slogans, mission, values, etc.) and logo design. I am pleased to work with her to develop the 'Take the Leap' slogan and articulate her work through a logo descriptive of proper form, movement and style.

As a bonus treat at the bottom of this portfolio, see the program cover I drew for Ballet Tap and all that Jazz's “Around the World in Dance” concert.

Rankin Upholstery

Quality and Craftsmanship since 1945

Rankin Upholstery is a Gaithersburg business that's been in operation since 1945. When I met the owner, Dan Simon, he was in the process of renovating property in downtown Hyattsville, so I was more than happy to get a cup of Vigilante Coffee with him and get to work. Dan's work ethic reflects the wider Rankin family vibe, an attention to detail and a wide smile eager with imagination and finesse. He sought an ongoing branding and marketing package, including messaging (slogans, mission, values, etc.), a shop photography session, and graphic design for advertisements, posters, postcards, and logo design. Rankin regularly participate in auto/boat/air shows, regularly seek customer feedback, and are eager to share their portfolio work on their website and social media.

Lastly, surrounding my work with Rankin, I've assisted Dan with another of his companies, Apartment Keepers, in polishing a new brochure and in promoting tenants for one of his properties, called "SoHy". Check it out below at the very bottom of the sets.
